Sometimes being a woman is just plain difficult! Not only do we have all the usual female issues to deal with, but occasionally, foul vaginal smells can be a problem. This is an issue which, unlike others, cannot be ignored as it is outwardly noticeable and unpleasant for those around us too.
Occasionally, this can be a one-off problem, caused by a unique set of one off circumstances. For some women though, this can be a recurrent issue. There are a number of home remedies for vaginal odor which you can try and these may be sufficient to get you feeling fresh again.
Sometimes the simplest things can be responsible for foul vaginal smells. Often so simple, that we often think that making such simple changes could not have any real effect. However, in many cases easy changes are all that is required. One cause of vaginal odor is, quite simply the clothes we wear. Tight-fitting trousers, pantyhose and synthetic panties can all contribute to a build up of foul vaginal smells by creating the ideal conditions of warmth and moisture for bacterial growth. Some women find that a few days of watching what they wear can really help-stick to loose clothing and always wear cotton panties.
One of the most common causes of bad vaginal odor is ironically the thing which we think is helping! Over washing is a common cause as this can strip the vaginal area of natural lubricants and the beneficial bacteria, causing a pH imbalance. This imbalance triggers off the growth of harmful bacteria. Simple home remedies if this is the case are washing only twice daily and avoiding perfumed products.
Sometimes, a change in sexual partner can bring about foul vaginal smells. This is simply because the pH levels of semen are slightly alkaline and this can upset the vagina's natural balance. It is wise to avoid intercourse until the condition settles but if it occurs, simply ensure that your partner wears a condom.
If you also have other symptoms accompanying the vaginal odor, such as a watery discharge which is gray or white in color, together with itching irritation of the vaginal area, it is highly likely that you have a very common condition called bacterial vaginosis. In this case, although home remedies for vaginal odor will help a little, they will not eradicate the root cause of BV.
